Overpopulation In 1950, India’s population was 360 million By 1980, population had risen to 685 million Economy could not keep up – Average person made $300 a year In 2000, population hit 1 billion

Kashmir Problem begins in 1947 when India & Pakistan gain independence

Kashmir Kashmir not joined to either side – Both India (majority Hindu)& Pakistan (majority Muslim) want Kashmir Minor conflicts fought from 1950 through 2004 – Over 20,000 people killed

Kashmir India claims ruler of Kashmir agreed to join India before passing away, therefore should be part of India Majority of population in Kashmir is Muslim, Pakistan claims it should therefore be part of Pakistan
