2. Introductions I grew up in Carlsbad. I went to college at Sonoma State University. I have a 3 ½ year old son, Landon, and a 2 year old son, Carter. This is my 10 th year of teaching. I have been at LCM for the last 9 years. I love teaching and I feel SO lucky to have such an amazing job!

5. Classroom Management We are big believers in POSITIVE reinforcement! We are always looking for students doing the right thing! However, if a student continues to make the wrong choices after a warning, they will have to “pull a slip.” If they are consistently being asked to correct the same behavior they will receive a Parent Communication Form. These will be saved and shared with the principal if the behavior continues. If the behavior continues, the student will need to go to Responsibility Room and complete a reflection form.

7. 7 Habits of Happy Kids Habit 1: Be Proactive I am a responsible person. I take initiative. I choose my actions, attitudes, and moods. I do not blame others for my wrong actions. I do the right thing without being asked, even when no one is looking. Habit 2: Begin With the End In Mind I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my classroom and contribute to my school’s mission and vision. Habit 3: Put First things First I spend my time on things that are most important. This means I say no to things I know I should not do. I set priorities, make a schedule, and achieve my goals. I am disciplined and organized. Habit 4: Think Win-Win I balance courage for getting what I want with consideration for what others want. I make deposits in others’ emotional bank accounts. When conflicts arise, I look for third alternatives. I look for ways to be a good citizen. Habit 5: Seek First To Understand, Then To Be Understood I listen to other people’s ideas and feelings. I try to see things from their viewpoints. I listen to others without interrupting. I am confident and in voicing my ideas. I look people in the eyes when talking. Habit 6: Synergize I value other people’s strengths and learn from them. I work well in groups, even with people who are different from me. I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems because I know that by teaming with others we can create better solutions than any one of us alone. I am humble. Habit 7: Sharpen The Saw I take care of my body by eating right and exercising, and getting sleep. I spend time with family and friends. I learn in lots of ways and lots of places, not just at school. I take time to find meaningful ways to help others.

8. Classroom Economy Students will be held responsible for a number of things in room 29. As a reward and motivation, students will be “paid” for the doing the following things: ∙ a weekly job ∙ being a table captain ∙ returning homework ∙ Showing the Dolphin Way!

Table Captains (1 per table group)$10/week *Checks that all table group members have all homework assignments *Records complete and missing homework assignments *Collects team members’ papers and puts them in number order *Keeps table crate/pencil cup near chair to pass out materials Supply Manager $10/week *Sharpens pencils in the bucket when needed *Checks on paper supply on shelves and restocks when needed *Keeps all supply areas neat and organized Room 29 Jobs

11. Homework Homework will be given each Monday-Thursday. Assignments will be given to reinforce what we are learning in class. Your child may also have unfinished classwork to complete at home. Homework should NOT take more than 30 minutes plus additional time for 75 pages per week (100 pages second semester) of independent reading. If your child is spending more than this amount of time on his/her homework, please contact us via email or phone call. A note from you explaining why homework is incomplete will prevent your child from being penalized. Please check your child’s assignment notebook nightly. This is another great tool for communicating with me.

17. Birthday Celebrations While we LOVE celebrating birthdays, we have a strict Wellness Policy that does not include treats for students. Please be considerate of this when it is your child’s birthday! Some options besides food include: birthday book donation (to LCM’s library or our class library or our class library) pencils
