4 The Egypt Trade Unions : - Egypt's workers live for long in a state of deterioration of their conditions of association under (the Government Workers Union) - Union of Egyptian Workers which was a stick in the hands of previous governments. Workers suffered for decades for lack of voiceless represent them and convey their concerns and their pain management, and have been looking for a lifeline from the authoritarian regimes that they may receive less of their rights through the actual representation of the voice of the right, gradually the light appeared from far by the workers on Real estate taxes who decided to establish their independent trade union in according with the international agreements ILO, workers struggled fiercely in defense of their right to establish independent union that was in 2009 three other unions followed them( Retired Workers’ Union, Teachers Union and Health sciences Union).

5 Egyptian Federation of Independent Trade Unions On 30 January 2011 those four unions intention was to announce establishment of the first independent trade union from Tahrir Square. After the announcement of of trade union freedoms after the revolution by Dr. Ahmed El-Borai - Minister of Manpower and Immigration – then started coming in many cases from the establishment of independent trade unions in various fields in all throughout and throughout Egypt. In October 13, 2011 was established Egyptian Federation of independent Trade Unions contains 76 union representatives of more than one million four hundred thousand workers representing all denominations unions in Egypt, such as trade unions of farmers, fishermen, drivers, sales tax, teachers, guides, furniture makers, textile workers, weaving workers, Employees of public transport, chemical companies, pilots,cement plants, ceramics, electricity, telecommunications, prosecutors, courts and other various crafts and activities and professions that represents all communities of Egyptian workforce, all of these unions had deposited leaves and registered at the Ministry of manpower and immigration

6 Egyptian Federation of Independent Trade Unions - In January 30, 2012 was held the first founding conference, were elected members of the Executive Office of the EFITU and the Financial Control Committee, discussed Union strategy and the Statute and that the membership of 260 trade union and independent presence 45 union and international organization and has elections under the supervision of a number of judges. - Now that number of members of the Egyptian Federation of Independent Trade Unions reached 212 trade union committee, 27 general trade union contains 198 sub trade unions, 4 regional federations, 6 quality unions and 3 Unions under construction, all representing more than two million and four hundred thousand members of Egyptian's workers. And even acceding oversees our unions and specific committees to represent widespread as members of the International Trade Union Confederation.

7 What EFITU have done about the violations in Egypt First: We made our freedom of association campaign for the issuance of the law of trade union freedoms and the definition of workers and the community of the importance of the issuance of this law.

8 Continues… Second : -We sent a complaint against the Government of Egypt to -THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATION - COMMITTEE ON FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION - REGARDING VIOLATIONS OF CONVENTION 87 AND 98 ● These organization supported and signed this letter - INTERNATIONAL TRADE UNION CONFEDERATION (ITUC) - INTERNATIONAL UNION OF FOODWORKERS (IUF) - EGYPTIAN DEMOCRATIC LABOUR CONGRESS (EDLC)

9 Continues…. Third : We asked the ILO to intervene to find out why the law has not adopted trade union freedoms ILO on the field - UN Labor Organization ILO has asked Labor Minister Khaled El Azhari to explain why a law on freedom of association still has not been adopted in Egypt. - Last month, the Ministry of Labor put a series of meetings with representatives of EFITU, EDLC and ETUF to discuss law number 35 and The law of trade union freedom eight meetings completed. - "We believe that the initiative for these meetings were only taken because the government can show the ILO that it does something." And also, "The government knows that we have complained to the ILO, and that we have disputed its lies."

10 Challenges EFITU still faces many challenges: Criminalization of the government to collect membership dues. The government refuse the establishment of more independent Trade Unions Dismissal of workers because of the formation of trade unions Ask the government to the maximum and the minimum wage Social justice and to improve working conditions Train workers on trade union action Engage in international labor organizations The law of trade union freedoms
