Almost every nation has a reputation of some kind. The English are reputed to be cold and reserved. In reality they are steady, easy-going and fond of sport..

The Scots are extravagant, their traditions are colourful and exciting. The Gaelic language and songs, the tartan, the bagpipes are completely Scottish.

Welshmen have contributed heavily to poetry, songs and drama. The national Welsh Eisteddfod is devoted to music, literature and the arts. It is a competitive festival and is held in the first week of August.

The Irish music and dance are quite popular, especially by Riverdance, a theatrical performance of Irish traditional dancing.

The love of gardens is deeply rooted in all the British people. You will seldom see a suburban garden neglected.

The most popular are the pubs, which are more than 150 – 200 years old, and the best advertisement institution is that here you can drink a good old beer and all meals at the restaurant are prepared according to old traditional recipes.

A goodwill mask is more mysterious than the open and friendly face of Englishman. Old traditions, the glorious fast arouse great interest in every Briton.

Pervasiveness holiday was acquired in the 18 th century. English, Scottish and French spread it in their American colonies. On April 1 people like to make fun of each other and give each other senseless orders, for example, to find and bring sweet vinegar.

The modern tradition of celebrating Easter in England has a lot of fun. At dawn on Easter Day in churches there are religious services. In Catholic churches there are organ concerts. On Easter Monday candies and toys are given to children in the streets.

Christmas – the most ambitious in its scope of all holidays. This Christian holiday is dedicated to the birth of Jesus Christ Children hang stockings by the fireplaces for gifts that Santa will drop in them. This tradition is associated with one of the legends about St. Nicholas.

On this day the Englishmen congratulate beloved pets – horses, dogs, cats etc. Men traditionally present jewelers. Moreover, they can have T – shirts with the name of his / her lover. It so happens that instead of « valentines », women get apple – symbol of love beauty.
