British Patron Saints' Days
3
The patron saints days are not celebrated with a holiday. They are St. Davids' Day (March 1 st ) in Wales, St. Georges' Day (April 23 rd ) in England and St. Andrews' Day (November 30 th ) in Scotland. Only Ireland, both North and South, has a holiday on St. Patricks' Day, (March 17th)
4
St. Andrew's Day It is a Day of the patron of Scotland. Severity and obstinacy of the Scottish character is more visually expressed in a floral emblem of a national flag of Scotland – a thistle.

Legend about thistle
6
In the IX century the Vikings landed on the eastern coast of Scotland with the intention to take and rob the country. The Scots gathered all the combatant forces and positioned themselves behind the river Tey. They arrived by the evening and set up a camp, settled down on rest, considering that the enemy would not attack till the next day. However, the Vikings were near. Not having found guards and sentries round the camp of the Scots, the Vikings crossed the Tey intending to take the Scots suddenly and to kill them sleeping. With this purpose they took off their shoes not to make noise while approaching to the camp. But suddenly one of the Vikings stepped on a thistle. From a sudden and sharp pain he screamed. Having heard the shout, the Scottish soldiers made an alarm in the camp. The Vikings were compelled to recede, and a thistle, as a sign of a gratitude for the timely and unexpected help, was chosen by the Scottish people to be the national emblem.
