3
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 These will naturally be based on the company’s own aims and should be kept short and straightforward. These may need to be redefined a couple of times as often companies tend to be unclear about what they want. Companies can also have unrealistic objectives and these should be translated into more achievable goals by careful re-thinking. The objectives of the plan
4
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 This section sets out the overall position of the Government and related organisations, and the general direction of the PA work. The overall strategy to be adopted
5
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 This is the most intense section of the plan as it will need to include detailed aspects of the work: Background documents for officials, Parliamentarians and others to be drafted, and then approved by the company. Note: generally there should be long notes for officials, short notes for Parliamentarians and in-between for others The monitoring of Government and official bodies in terms of consultations, changes in policies and relevant events in Parliament (such as debates, questions and any specific mention by name of the client company or its products) Tactics
6
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 Setting out which departments should be approached and their relevant sections or divisions (whether to give actual names of officials is a matter of judgement) Will Ministers be involved? If so, which Ministers will be involved? The identification of Parliamentarians with an interest in the company's products and the best ways of approaching them. Tactics
7
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 Setting out the importance of voluntary organisations and ways to get their support, whilst respecting their independence Involvement with official governmental organisations The use to be made of Key Opinion Formers Other relevant people/organisations Tactics
8
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 Note: all the above tactics must take account of any contacts/work carried out previously by the company, to avoid duplication and recriminations. Tactics
9
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 It is important to note that a PA programme will almost invariably take time. Trying to limit the work to, say, three months, would normally be a waste of time and money for the company. Companies should aim to produce regular written reports supplemented by telephone conferences and/or meetings regarding their PA Plan progress. Timetable and accountability
10
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 The plan needs to identify who will be in the PA team, who will be the day-to-day contact. Personnel
11
© MAP MedTech Limited 2016 It is useful to outline a Code of Conduct for this line of work Code of Conduct
