Weapons of Mass Destruction 1.WMDs- Weapons that kill a large number of people causing great damage 2.Nuclear Weapons- bombs using radioactive material making explosions bigger and more powerful 3.Biological weapons- Weapons infecting people 4.Chemical weapons- Using chemicals to hurt/harm 5.Terrorism- Unlawful use of extreme violence against innocent civilians. Task: Write down the title and explain what WMD are using the information. Extension: Which type do you believe is the most dangerous and why?

Key word for the lesson The United Nations (UN) is an organisation set up at the end of World War II to prevent war by discussing problems between countries. Task: Write down the above and include their logo. Extra challenge: Do you think it is good that the UK are part of the UN?

Key points of the UN Set up after WWII to stop atrocities such as genocide U. N peace keeping forces are made up of soldiers, administrators and police from a number of countries so that no one country has to pay all the cost/take all the risks. Five permanent member countries, UK, USA, China, Russia and France The U. N can stop threats to world peace by; 1.Imposing sanctions (for example banning trade to countries threatening the peace) 2.Authorising force by members of the U. N to stop the aggressor 3.Sending in a peace keeping force to prevent conflict breaking out, stabilise conflict, help put peace agreements into place and help set up governments to put democracy in place so everyone has a say.

Give some examples of countries who belong. 4.3 positive things that they have achieved or are doing. What are they? Why are the important? What are they trying to achieve?
