5. 98% of architecture worldwide is designed without architects

6. since 2006 the half part of world population lives in cities

7. now 30% of urban world population lives in slums, and by 2030, according to United Nations, 2 billion people will live in slums

8. slums entered in the common sense as paradigm of urban decay, poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and crime

9. sensible reduction of slums dwellers is one of the Millenium Development Goal that members of United Nations agreed to achieve by 2015

10. Not only slums but also conflicts and natural disaster (and climate changing) contribute to bad living conditions all over the world

11. Note that is not only a problem of poor country, also in Italy we have some problems...

12. How can we face, as architects, the huge demand for decent, healthy, economic and sustainable architecture?

13. We need to rethink the design process and get more people involved in it ?

14. If sustainable design is too complex to be solved by a small design team....

15. ...open source practises can help architectural project in order to connect people, share knowledge, educate people and create better design solutions

16. as for software is the code, in architecture we can consider the project as a source

17. a source licensed under creative commons principles

18. The source is available with a lot of additional information...

19. ...and, of course, with technical drawings

20. another example of pojectual source, the open source house competition...

21. ...where not only the results are shared freely but also all others experience that inspired architects who participated

22. in some cases the source is not only the project, but also the work of architect that defines it...

23. ...so that the source becomes both the project both its process of delevepment

24. furthermore, even the construction methods can be open...

25. ...in order to let the possibility to end users to build their own house

26. but also the building can function as a source...

27. ...when it let the possibility to occupant to be upgraded following their necessities

28. ...whe talk about incremental housing

29. CONCLUSION Open source practises can include and influence architecture and building design processes......acting in different phases, such as: Funding Engagement Design Construction Occupancy
