Distinguished Talk Assoc. Prof. Dr. Van Duc Nguyen School of Electronics and Telecommunications Hanoi University of Science and Technologies On August 19, 2016, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology Contact information : hcliu@mail.ntust.edu.tw 02-27301061 Hsin-Chin Liu Speech: 9:30~11:30; Room: T2-202 Channel estimation and interference cancellation for the OFDM-based LTE-R system The major problems of the LTE-R systems are the time-varying and the intercarrier- interference (ICI) caused by a high Doppler shift. Our talk presents a method for estimating a fast time-varying LTE-R channels, which changes within an OFDM symbol. The basic idea to develop this method is, that the channel is assumed to be a linear function within an OFDM symbol. This linear function can be established by using the pilot insertion in the time domain of each OFDM symbol. In each OFDM symbol, the slope and the initial value of the assumed linear function are estimated to adapt to the time variation of the channel. The simulation results show that the estimated channel by our proposed method can follow the real channel well, even in a very high Doppler frequency. The estimation performance in terms of MSE significantly outperforms the state of the arts. After estimating the channel, we use the obtained channel knowledge to compensate the ICI. Therefore, the system performance is significantly improved, even that system suffers from a high Doppler frequency shift. Van Duc Nguyen was born in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, in 1973. He received the Bachelor and Master of Engineering degrees in Electronics and Communications from the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Vietnam, in 1995 and 1997, respectively, and the Dr.-Ing. degree in Communications Engineering from the University of Hannover, Germany, in 2003. From 1995 to 1998, he worked for the Electronics and Communications Faculty of the HUST as an Assistant Researcher. In 1996, he participated in the student exchange program between the HUST and the Munich University of Applied Sciences for one term. From 1998 to 2003, he was with the Institute of Communications Engineering, University of Hannover, first as a DAAD scholarship holder and then as a member of the scientific staff. From 2003 to 2004, he was employed with Agder University College in Grimstad, Norway, as a Postdoctoral Researcher. From 2005-2006, he was with the International University of Bremen as a Postdoctoral Fellow. In 2007, he joined the Sungkyunkwan University, Korea, as a research professor for one month. In 2008, he received a scholarship of the Austrian Academic Exchange Service (OeAD) for one month to work as a researcher in the Klagenfurt University, Austria. As an output of a join research cooperation project between HUST and the Hannover university, he together with Prof Thomas Kaiser opened in 2011 in Hanoi a branch of the mimoOn GmbH company operating in the LTE embedded software market. In December 2013, he was appointed by the HUST president as the director the Vietnamese German Centre for technology cooperation. He served for the Vietnamese national foundation of science and technology development from 2009 to 2015 as a member of the ICT committee. Since 2009, He became an associate professor at HUST. His current research interests include Mobile Radio Communications, especially MIMO-OFDM systems, radio resource management and cognitive radio technology for LTE-A networks, wireless channel modelling for V2V, underwater communications. He has published around 70 international conference and journal papers, and obtained 4 international patents.
