Emotional Characteristic for a Motivational Wristband
2
Physical How will my wristband feel to the user? My product is a motivational tool, or an aid for people who struggle to get the motivation they need to succeed from within themselves and require an extra boost. I want the product to convey strength and determination and the ability to reach goals that seem far away. So how can I do this through the physical interaction of the product? The exterior material will be a high quality black matte finish, with potential brushed metal trim. The idea being that when held, it will convey feelings of high value. Of importance. In reality the wristband is not a high value item, the idea being that the sleek finish will make the user feel like it is. And to give them any small amount of confidence is the aim. The interactive buttons on top of the device will have a feeling of robustness when pressed, they will click when used and confirm the users actions. Causing no doubts. I want the band to portray a feeling of strength and solidity not weakness. The magnetic catch will have a distinct SNAP noise when connecting. Again this is to enhance the feeling of solidity and confidence. A limp, loose magnet would only cause insecurity. Causing problems In the products functionality and the users mind.

Social How will this product make us be seen, or enhance our relationships with others? The purpose of my product is not directly aimed at other people. However the social knock-on effects that my product could possibly cause have a giant impact on it’s usability. In a younger age group many people want to blend in a crowd or group and not be seen, especially when someone has a problem with motivation and confidence. Wearing my product would cause the opposite, people would notice it. And ask questions. So it must be designed in a way that makes it appear desirable and not like the ‘training aid’ that it is. This would only decrease the users confidence further, for instance if people made fun of it. The product must enhance the users social interactions with people and not isolate them. They should not be seen as an ‘outcast’ for wearing the band. Using confident people for marketing and branding campains could help with this social problem, for instance. A celebrity sparking of a trend in the accessory could have knock on effects of the accessory being used correctly and more regularly. Creating more efficient and dedicated users and people.
