1 Grizzly Bear Did you know that grizzly bears have better smell then a hound dog?

2 Physical Characteristics Grizzly bears have white tips on their black to blond colored fur, giving them a grizzled appearance and the name grizzly bear. They can stand up to 8 feet tall! Adult males weigh around 300 to 860 pounds, while females weigh anywhere from 200 to 450 pounds.

3 Habitat Grizzly Bears live in southwest United States, western Canada, and Alaska. Once they become adults they have no predators. Usually, you will find them near lakes or rivers.

4 Adaptations Grizzly bears have long sharp claws to help build dens and catch food. They have great eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell. Also, they have long sharp teeth to protect their cubs and eat their food.

5 Food A mother bear and her cubs will spend 16 hours a day eating, so they won’t starve while hibernating. They are omnivores, which means they eat meat and plants. They eat moose, squirrels, rodents, fish, deer, elk, cows, sheep, and nutritious plants.

6 Their Young Grizzly’s become pregnant when they are only 6 or 7 years old. A cub is born while their mother is hibernating. Once one is born it’s FATHER will try to KILL it, but the mother will try to protect the cub.

7 Interesting Facts They have special tree’s to rub their backs and behind’s on. Grizzly’s are a subspecies of the black bear.
