6. INGOT MOULD FOUNDRY The Ingot Mould Foundry Manufactures Ingot Mould & Bottom Plates for Consumption in Steel Melting Shop. It has Following Sections:- Slag pot casting section Storage of sand & betonite Sand preparation & regeneration section Moulding section Pouring section

9. POWER ENGINEERING BRIGADE Power engineering does capital repairs and medium repairs of high speed rotary equipments Main activities of PEB :- Capital repair of Boiler, turbo machine Major breakdown Balancing of rotary machine

10. OPERATION GARAGE It is a service department The department’s services are carried through various various material handling earth moving equipments & transport vehicles. Most of its services are carried round the clock Any delay in availability of these equipments will cause setbacks in production

CENTRAL BASE REPAIR SHOP It is also a service department where major repair needs of mobile equipments working in different maintenance/ operation activities of the plant It undertakes maintenance repair of engines and sub assembly of mobile equipments of plant CBRS is doing major over hauling of cummin engine and controls group equipments

ROLL GRINDING & BEARING SHOP THIS SHOP MAINLY PERFORMS Supply and maintains the rolls of various mills to grind them as per the required norms Finishing and crowning is done to ensure maximum life of the rolls to assemble, disassemble,inspect, maintain various types of chocks, roll neck bearings

18. STEEL MELTING SHOPS There are two steel melting shops SMS-I SMS-II SMS –I has LD convertor in which technically pure oxygen which is 95.5% is blown from top through a water cooled lance so as to remove the impurities of hot metals by oxidation By blowing process hot metal converts into steel

19. SMS -II SMS –II is different from SMS –I because of blowing process and gas recovery system Capacity of SMS- II is 2.25 MT of liquid steel

20. HSM Hot rolling refers to the plastic deformation of a metal above its recrystallisation temperature by squeezing it between a pair of rollers This mill is designed to roll thin and wide strips for use in various industries such as Wagon building, Pipe industry

CONCLUSION During the schedule of six weeks of training at STEEL AUTHORITY OF INDIA LIMITED I had the opportunity to carefully asses my skills and aptitude for mechanical engineering and also a unique temperament an engineer needs to have to continue working in public sector I also want to mention that training in a PSU has its own experience having learning atmosphere
