SOURCE The point in which the river starts, usually at a high elevation.

PLATEAU A large flat area, usually at a high elevation.

CLIFF The steep edge of a plateau.

STRAIT A narrow strip of water separating two land masses.

A point where the sea/ocean sticks into the land, it is partly surrounded by land and smaller than a gulf BAY

PLAIN A large rolling, flat area.

ARCHIPELAGO A large group of islands close together.

WATERFALL The point where a river suddenly drops in elevation.

OCEAN A very large body of water.

ISTHMUS A narrow piece of land which connects two larger pieces of land. Has water on both sides

PENINSULA A piece of land which is almost completely surrounded by water

GULF A water body which is part of an ocean, almost surrounded by land, larger than a bay

DESERT A large area of land which receives very little rain

BASIN A bowl shaped depression in the land or region that is cleared by a specific river system

CANYON A long, narrow, valley between 2 cliffs, often with a river or stream flowing thru it.

DELTA A deposit of sand and soil formed at the mouth of some rivers.

MOUNTAIN Earth’s tallest landform, very steep.

ISLAND A small piece of land completely surrounded by water

RIVER A natural stream of water and usually empties into another body of water

COAST An area of land which touches an ocean, sea, gulf, or bay

HILL A raised area of land, smaller and less steep than a mountain.

VALLEY A low, flat area of land which is between 2 hills or mountains. Usually has a river or stream flowing thru it.
