1 Borrower Claims Returned (BCR)

2 BCR Procedure When a patron comes to the desk, claiming they have returned a book that is still on his or her account, we must look for the book on the shelf. We can only discharge a book if we can physically see the book in front of us. If you have time and desk coverage while the patron is still here, go upstairs and look for the book immediately. If you cannot search for the book immediately, fill out a Search Slip so that you can search for it when you have the time. The staff member that helped the patron must search for the book before his or her shift ends.Search Slip The book was found on the shelf. The book was found on the shelf. The book was not found on the shelf. The book was not found on the shelf.

Search – A book cannot be found on the shelf but is available in the catalogue. Notes: Any notes relating to the search. (eg. Patron claims book was returned in dropbox on March 13.) Call Number: The call number for the book. Title: The book’s title. Item ID: The book’s barcode number. If the book has multiple copies, make sure you write the barcode for the specific copy that needs to be searched for. Name: Name of the patron that initiated the search.
