WHAT ARE THE ELEMENTS OF SHORT STORY? CHARACTERS,SETTING,PLOT, SOLUTION,AND CONFLICT

WHAT ARE CHARACTERS? A character is a person, or sometimes even an animal, who takes part in the action of a short story or other literary work.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF CHARACTERS? Major or central characters are vital to the development and resolution of the conflict; also known as protagonist; the plot & resolution of conflict revolves around them. Minor characters serve to complement the major characters and help move the plot events forward; Antagonist.

WHAT IS SETTING? The setting of a short story is the time and place in which it happens. Authors often use descriptions of landscape, scenery, buildings, seasons or weather to provide a strong sense of setting.

WHAT IS PLOT? A plot is a series of events and character actions that relate to the central conflict.

WHAT IS CONFLICT? The conflict is a struggle between two people or things in a short story. The main character is usually on one side of the central conflict.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF CONFLICT? A common approach for this standard is to teach about the “Big Four” types of literary conflict: Man vs. Man, Man vs. Nature, Man vs. Society, and Man vs. Self.

WHAT IS THEME? The theme is the central idea or belief in a short story; the message, or moral of the story.
