B. THE CRUSADES 1. (1095-1291) Holy Wars, Catholic Church against the Muslims (Seljuk Turks) to capture the Holy Lands of Palestine (Pope Urban III). a. Motive: “God wills it”- 1096 thousands of knights and ordinary people went to the Holy Land to take it back. b. Some knights went to win wealth, for adventure and to escape troubles of home.
