2 What we know 1 in 4 young people between 15-24 will experience a mental disorder in any 12 month period 15 - 24 years old is the peak period for the onset of mental disorders (75%) Pathways for young people to access health resources are limited as use of standard GPs is under-represented in this age group Negative impact on longer term vocational pathways and economic participation (Birchwood, Singh & McGorry, 2013)

18 Sussex Update 2010 – youth strategy group 2011 – project grant from South Coast SHA 2012 – 2014 – ‘proof of principal’ evaluation of Pathfinder Service in Crawley 2015 – project grant from South Coast SCN to roll out to Brighton & Hastings 2016 – successful CCG bid for youth service in Hastings 2016 - ‘How to set up a youth service’ manual

21 Future Short term – Build on current model – ensure sustainability – Collaborative – Making the most of resources – Evaluate – Sussex/Warwick Universities – Roll out to other venues in Sussex eg Coastal West Sussex & Eastbourne East Sussex

22 Future Longer term – Standalone youth services? – ‘Wrap around’ – Multiple agencies – Healthcare, social, educational, vocational, probation – Commissioned jointly
