11. Advisory Structure Executive Advisory Board: Provide ongoing guidance and advising on the strategic approach, development, and implementation of the entire initiative. Provide connections to organizational contacts to ensure key voices are incorporated into the development and implementation of the initiative Content Advisory Committee: Provide expertise in content vetting and selection, assessment strategy, and ongoing content delivery. Analytics and Data Evaluation Advisory Committee: Synthesize research on student readiness for high school, postsecondary, and the workforce; Identify data and metrics that can be used to conceptualize student pathways, and; Potentially partner with Texas OnCourse to conduct studies related to student pathways if significant gaps exist in the literature. Employer Advisory Committee: Provide insight into business and industry needs across the state, with a particular focus on marketable skills and endorsement pathways.

13. Postsecondary Advising Core Competencies Postsecondary Research – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to assist students in evaluating and interpreting information about college and other postsecondary education alternatives. Entrance & Placement Exams – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to understand the administration and use of various entrance/placement exams and to interpret test-related data. Admission & Application Process – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to assist students in navigating the postsecondary admission and application process, to include military-specific and student athlete processes. Decision-Making Process – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to guide students in making informed postsecondary college/career decision.

Financial Advising Core Competencies Financial Aid & Scholarship Application Process – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to assist students in applying for federal, state, or institutional financial aid and scholarships, to address special circumstances that may arise, and to interpret outcome data related to the process. Award Letters – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to assist students and their parents or guardians in understanding and interpreting award letters as part of the financial decision-making process and to interpret outcome data related to the process.

Career Advising Core Competencies Career Exploration – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to guide students in their career development through deepening their understanding of their career interests, work styles, and work values, prompting exploration of the aligned career clusters. Academic Planning – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to assist students and their parents or guardians in aligning the student’s career interests, as well as aptitude and skills with the four-year high school plan. Career Learning Experiences – demonstrates the practitioner’s ability to facilitate school-to-industry partnerships for the purpose of expanding students’ understanding of postsecondary and career opportunities through career learning experiences (e.g., apprenticeships, job shadowing, and internships).
