2 School-wide Guidelines The 3 B’s! 1.Be respectful 2.Be responsible 3.Be safe

3 Honey Drops How do students get them? ◦ By being safe, respectful, and responsible (the 3 B’s). Any teacher or staff member can spot students following the three B’s and give honey drops ANY TIME, ANYWHERE!!

4 Homework 1. In 4 th grade, students are required to do at least 40 minutes of homework each night. 2. Students will receive homework in both Math and Language Arts each day that will be due the next day. (We will occasionally have homework in other subjects but the total time should be about the same each night). Homework will be posted on classroom webpage for you to refer to. 3. Students are responsible for completing their homework on time. We will go over it in class the next day. 4. Students are also responsible for getting their Student Agenda signed.

6 Wacky Wednesday & Study Hall! 1. Every Wednesday, we will have a Wacky Wednesday free time for students who completed all homework and classwork. 2. Students who have not turned in a homework assignment or have incomplete classwork will go to study hall instead of Wacky Wednesday.

7 Graded Work & Newsletters Graded work and class work will be sent home throughout the quarter. Students should be putting it in the “Black Hole” of their expandable folder. Please take out all your student’s work and review it with your child…this is yours to keep. You can access your student’s grades on ParentVue. Newsletters will be posted on our classroom webpage. The newsletter includes: What we will cover in class in all curriculum areas. Anything upcoming that you should be aware of.

8 Reading Literature Studies : Focus on vocabulary, spelling, and text comprehension including main idea, theme, and citing evidence from the text. We will incorporate the following into our reading instruction: Whole Group Small Group (ability based) Partner Reading Silent Independent Reading

9 Reading Skills Reading skills that we work very hard on in fourth grade are: Making inferences Main idea / Summarizing Theme Cause and effect Comprehension Sequencing Author’s Purpose

11 WRITING PROCESS Write From the Beginning – our new curriculum helps student better map out their ideas to plan their writing and helps with structure and more expressive writing Prewriting Draft Revision Editing Publishing

13 LANGUAGE We cover several aspects of grammar and language structure. Some of what we cover includes: Analogies Context Clues Prefixes / Suffixes / Root Words Antonyms / Synonyms / Homonyms Figurative / Literal Language Types of Sentences Subject and Predicate Punctuation Parts of Speech Contractions Fact and Opinion

14 Spelling & Vocabulary Each week: Each Monday, students will be given 20 spelling words. They will record this list of words in their Agenda which goes home each night in their expandable folder. Students can practice the words using Spelling City at www.spellingcity.com or by another method of your choice. www.spellingcity.com Also on Monday, students will receive 5 to 6 vocabulary words. They will have a vocabulary task for homework each night. Each Friday there will be a Spelling test & Vocabulary test!

15 MATHEMATICS The expectation for your child entering 4 th grade: Fluency of multiplication and division facts 0 through 10. Operations and Algebraic Thinking Solving problems using multiplicative comparisons Applying multiplication and division strategies to solve problems with larger numbers patterns and relationships Number and Operations in Base Ten Place value understanding for multi- digit numbers operations w/ multi-digit whole numbers

17 Social Studies It’s All About Arizona! People in Arizona have always been affected by and changed the environment. Exploration in Arizona resulted in the founding of European colonies and changes for the local Native Americans. Understanding and explain the events that led to Arizona becoming a state. Understanding how and why the people of Arizona are responsible for their community, government and economy.

23 MORNING PARENT DROP OFF If you pull into the lot and park, please walk your student across the crosswalk. Please be patient when waiting to pull into the lot. There is only one line of traffic that is pulling in from the street. Students should be ready to exit the car when the time is appropriate and should exit curbside.

30 Parking If your child needs significant help buckling their seatbelt or fastening their booster seat, please park in the designated area. This will assist in keeping our parent pick-up line flowing.

40 My behavior plan focuses on the principles of respect and responsibility, and the development of “life skills” and behaviors that promote learning and community in the classroom. We use a clip chart in our classroom. Students are rewarded for following the 3 B’s with a clip-up and are reminded to take responsibility for their choices with a clip-down. Behavior plan
