CARMEN MAIDANTCHIK FELIPE FINK GRAEL KAIO KARAM KATHY POMMES LAURA DE OLIVEIRA FERNANDES MORAES LUIZ HENRIQUE RAMOS DE AZEVEDO EVORA MANUELA CIRILLI MARZIO NESSI on behalf of ATLAS Technical Coordination 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan1 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 Universidade Federal do Rio De Janeiro

The Glance Project During ATLAS installation, the Technical Coordination was responsible, among other things, of managing the databases for the installed equipment (inventory, configuration, position, cabling) Data was stored using different: Technologies Model Terminology Different interest related to the data Multiple retrieve systems = hard to manage 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan2 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010

Interacts with generic repositories Search and insert/update data User-friendly Web interface Connects to Oracle, MS SQL Server, MySQL technologies Export/import different data formats: Excel, CSV, XML, HTML The Glance Project Database Glance Interface Descriptions recognizes DB and creates interface Database 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan3 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010

The Glance expands ATLAS Experiment is an international collaboration where more than 37 countries, 172 institutes and laboratories, 2900 physicists, engineers, and computer scientists plus 700 students participate. Management of ATLAS involves: Equipments (there are 110 500 equipments, 22000 detector positions in UX15) Members Appointments Talks Papers Using Glance as a first application, it was possible to build several systems to support ATLAS Management 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 4

21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan5 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 ATLAS Traceability Gather all equipment information as radiation level, position, system, type, physical characteristics, etc All these features help ATLAS follow the security rules to remove, repair, transport or eliminate radioactive material.

DSS Alarms Viewer Choose an alarm Alarm details Activation Conditions Actions Activation History 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan6 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010

Gather all relevant information about ATLAS members and institutes. 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan7 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 ATLAS Membership

ATLAS Membership: qualification process 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan8 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 There are several steps to become an author and the system proceed among them like a state machine Notifying e-mails are sent after each step is accomplished

ATLAS Appointment 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan9 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 Manage appointments All the information related to the appointment

21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan10 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 Used in other systems to assign privileges

ATLAS Speakers 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan11 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 All the talks given by the speaker Nomination of possible speakers Priority that should be given to this nomination Interest area of the speaker

ATLAS Speakers: histograms 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan12 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 Histograms analysing the number of nominations and talks per institute, country, year, etc Histograms help distribute the talks fairly between members and institutes

ATLAS Analysis Possibility to add reviews Indication of the role responsible for the step 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan13 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010 For every paper, a sequence of tasks has to be followed for its editorial process and approval, until it can be submitted to the journal where it should be published. 17 Conclusion One retrieval tool for many systems Can be used to create systems to manage any domain, such as equipment installation, members, papers Search and insert/update data in different databases 10 most used systems developed in collaboration between Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and ATLAS Technical Coordination (13 in total, 1 in collaboration with LHCb) Conexions between the systems support exchange of information No need to store data in more than one place Privilege system Decentralization of ATLAS activities 21 Oct 2010 – Taipei, Taiwan17 Glance Information System for ATLAS Management - CHEP 2010
