14 Time Zones Earth has 24 time zones, each one is 15 degrees of longitude (why)??? 16 Determining Time using Longitude cont… To figure out what time it is follow these steps: –Determine what time it is at Greenwich England (0 degrees longitude) –If you are East of 0 degrees longitude the time will be ahead 1 hour for every 15 degrees of longitude an observer moves. –If you are West of 0 degrees longitude the time will be behind 1 hour for every 15 degrees of longitude an observer moves Remember if you move East time goes Ahead if you move West time goes Back To figure out what time it is follow these steps: –D–Determine what time it is at Greenwich England (0 degrees longitude) –I–If you are East of 0 degrees longitude the time will be ahead 1 hour for every 15 degrees of longitude an observer moves. –I–If you are West of 0 degrees longitude the time will be behind 1 hour for every 15 degrees of longitude an observer moves Remember if you move East time goes Ahead if you move West time goes Back
