3
Key principles of Management O Scalar chain Principle: There should be a clear and unbroken line of communication throughout organization. O Unity of Command: Each person should receive orders from only one boss. O Unity of Direction: One person should be in charge of all activities with same performance objective.
4
5 “rules” or “duties” of management The six primary functions of management that go hand and hand with the principles of management: O Foresight: To complete plan of action for future. O Organization: to provide & mobilize resources to implement plans. O Command: To lead, select & evaluate workers to get the best results. O Coordination: To fit diverse efforts together & ensure information is shared and problems solved. O Control: To assure things go to plan & take necessary corrective action.
5
Limitations O Management oriented theory: It does not give much attention to the problems of the workers. O Lack of importance of informal organization: Does not give any importance to informal organization or groups. It gives importance only to the formal organization structure. O Concepts borrowed from military science: Were borrowed from military science. They tried to apply these concepts to the social and business organizations. O Mechanical approach: It does not deal with some of the important aspects of management such as motivation, communication and leading.
