This presentation is meant to be viewed by high school students (9-12) in order to become more familiar with the Dewey Decimal Classification and, as a result, better navigate the media center and its resources. This presentation will gauge what the audience already knows about the DDC as well as test what the audience learns about the DDC through a pretest and posttest.

Melvil Dewey (1851-1931) “Father of Modern Librarianship” Developed the DDC when he was 21 while working as a student librarian in college.

“A general knowledge organization tool that is continuously revised to keep pace with knowledge.” The most widely used classification system in the world. Librarians use the DDC to organize and categorize every book that could be in the collection on a consistent basis.
