2  This presentation is meant to be viewed by high school students (9-12) in order to become more familiar with the Dewey Decimal Classification and, as a result, better navigate the media center and its resources.  This presentation will gauge what the audience already knows about the DDC as well as test what the audience learns about the DDC through a pretest and posttest.

4  Melvil Dewey (1851-1931)  “Father of Modern Librarianship”  Developed the DDC when he was 21 while working as a student librarian in college.

5  “A general knowledge organization tool that is continuously revised to keep pace with knowledge.”  The most widely used classification system in the world.  Librarians use the DDC to organize and categorize every book that could be in the collection on a consistent basis.
