Before we START, Just Imagine this kind of FREEDOM... The freedom to run the program anywhere, for any purpose. The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs. The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor. The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits. Hence, access to the source code is an essential for this.

Common Misconceptions Linux is hard to install. Linux is free, hence it is unsupported On Linux, you cant open files other people send. After installation,it still doesnt have everyday applications. And it goes on and on and on...
12
Misconceptions cleared Linux is NOT hard to install.it has a fast and graphical installer, which installs it in less than 25 minutes. You can obtain the installation disc online at shipit.ubuntu.com You can have a preview of Ubuntu before you actually install it.can also be used on Virtualbox and VM Ware. System requirements are less compared to other OS like Windows, requires just 4GB of space, and 256 MB of RAM is more than enough, providing better features. Supports more than 50 languages.
13
Misconceptions cleared Ubuntu offers free support from the communities all over the globe. It supports the user through ) via multiple channels (Phone, Email, Mailing Lists, Forums, and IRC) available to anyone. It also offers commercial support through Cannonical Ltd. For server editions. Softwares for Ubuntu are FREE and are available on the web. Discussion forums contribute so much towards development which you could be a part of.
14
Its got everything... The default Ubuntu install includes an email client, a browser, a graphics program, and an office suite. Practically everything you need. If you don't have the program you want, you could easily download it by issuing one command (sudo apt-get install program-name). On the other hand, OEM systems don't have a full-featured Office and Graphics suites installed (e.g. Paint, Works, or MS Office 30-day trial) and you'll have to buy them before you could use Office and Graphics applications.
15
The pro's GNU - General Public License Security holes are patched in hours Critical bugs are fixed quickly Free to relatively expensive Modular design as opposed to Window's Monolithic design Truly Multi-User and Multi-Tasking
16
Pro's continued... Help readily available Linux runs on equipment that other systems consider too underpowered Near million applications available for download
17
The Con's... Windows programs won't work or it is hard to make it work. Isn't as popular as Windows. No one company is responsible for Linux. Graphics is still a developing scenario. Inadequate Plug and Play Support for exotic devices. Tend to be geared towards broadband users. Resistance of users to change.
18
Now, The Exciting Part... What we can do as STUDENTS.

Get Developing Ubuntu is developed through an open community process. Anyone with the necessary technical skills can contribute to the development of Ubuntu. If you want to learn, you can find a mentor within the development team to help you along.Information about the development of Ubuntu can be found in the developer documentation, which is maintained in the wiki. It explains how the development team is structured, provides technical information about developing Ubuntu, and indexes other useful resources for current and prospective Ubuntu developers.
20
Design Improve the Look and Feel of Ubuntu. You can design the Graphics or Themes or Background of the next release. With technical know-how available on the net, start fiddling around with Desktop environments like GNOME and KDE and put your creativity to best use.
21
Documentation and Testing Help produce official documentation. Share the solution to a problem. Check and test other documents for accuracy. Ubuntu releases new versions every 6 months and many testers are needed who can report or confirm problems.
