2. Background of Learners The learners will be 4 th graders, male and female. There will be 25 students in the class. They will be between 8-9 years old and will be inexperienced bike riders. Most of the students are from a neighborhood full of children, but they are all the only child or the oldest child in their families. 2

3. Objectives The objective of this lesson is to be able to teach the 4 th graders the safety requirements needed for bike riding. They will learn what a helmet is, when to wear it, and the proper ways to wear it for their safety. (needed pictures of full classroom) 3

4. Environment The students will have this lesson taught to them in the classroom. For the safety portions they will be in the classroom, until they are physically learning how to ride a bike, then they will be sent outside.(need picture of classroom with 5 round tables, with kids, and a smart board.) 4

5. Activity 1: The students will watch a 1 minute video on helmet safety and why it is important to have a proper fitting helmet when riding a bike. The video is short and concise, and should be easy for the students to understand. 5

6. Activity 2: Students will be split into groups of 5, making it 5 groups in the classroom. In their groups, the students will collectively create a design for their safe helmet, adding all of their own creative details, and incorporating the tools needed on the helmet to ensure safety. 7. Cont’d Activity 2 Students will then present their safety helmets to the class and explain why they think that their helmets meet all of the criteria for safety. (needed picture of students presenting creative helments) 7
