Accrington ‘Accrington Pals’ were the 11th (Service) Battalion (Accrington) East Lancashire Regiment About half from Accrington and others from nearby towns 720 took part in attack at Serre on 1 st July 1916 with 584 killed, missing or wounded

Preston Part of 7th (Service) Battalion, Loyal North Lancashire Regiment Served in France during 1915 including at Loos Due to fight at the Somme in the afternoon of 1 st July but attack cancelled Heavy casualties later in the battle and in 1917 Disbanded 1918 © War Memorials Trust, 2016

Barnsley Like Accrington Pals, the two Barnsley Pals Battalions of the York and Lancaster Regiment served in Egypt in 1915 Moved to France in 1916 Fought at Serre on 1 st July 1916 1 st Barnsley Pals suffered 270 casualties and the 2 nd Barnsley Pals suffered 275 casualties
