Thermoreceptors Stimulated by variations in temperature

Mechanoreceptors Stimulated by pressure and movement Found in the skin, skeletal muscles & ears.

Mechanoreceptors (in the ear) Sound Vibrations in the air that stimulate mechanoreceptors in the ear Cochlea contains tiny hairs that move when sound vibrations hit them

Hairs within your ear also maintain your balance Semicircular canals – fluid filled sacs that tell your brain the position of your body in respects to gravity Mechanoreceptors (in the ear)

Chemoreceptors Stimulated by chemicals Found in the nose and on taste buds

Photoreceptors (in the eye) Stimulated by light (color and light vs. dark) Two main receptor types Rods – sense light vs. dark Cones – sense color Iris controls pupil pupil controls how much light comes in Lens and cornea focus light onto rods and cones
