INTROS Introduce yourself and tell me your favorite book/author & your favorite movie After our introductions, write in your notebook YOUR definition of CREATIVE WRITING (It can be both literal and abstract phrases or one-word answers) Make a list of all the genres of creative writing that you know

Creativity = No Boundaries You can…. – Write what you know – Write what you wonder or dream of – Write a truth you haven’t discovered yet – Write until your soul is content – Write to find meaning and substance – Write to entertain – Write to frighten – Write to inspire thought

Creativity is… Turn to a friend or a new classmate, and write your answers together to the following questions in a notebook 1. Make a list of the most creative books and/or movies that you know (It can be creative in terms of dialogue, characters, plot, humor, fear/horror, special effects, setting, etc. ) 2. What elements make those stories creative? (Be prepared to discuss with class)

Take a risk! Creative writing means leaving the rules behind and taking a risk (as long as you don’t cross the boundaries of appropriateness for school) Don’t be afraid to use your imagination, like when you were a child

What isn’t Creative Writing An Analytical Essay (Yuck!) Your report card (unless you doctored it up, which could get interesting) Excuse note (Unless it’s somewhere along the lines of “I was late because I was on official duty…had to take a call from the President”)

Creative Love Letter Use your imagination along with vivid sensory details and imagery to write a love letter to your cell phone or other electronic device! Don’t be afraid to let go and be silly! If you really are not a technology person, you may write your letter to your pen or pencil. HAVE FUN!!!

How many ways could you tell a scary story? You are home alone one dark, stormy night. You hear a loud noise coming from upstairs. Suddenly there is a bolt of lightening, and the power goes out. Decide what happens next. Then, tell the story in 1-2 pages Finally, turn to a partner and swap stories. Compare/contrast the outcome and the style of story-telling (details, descriptions, etc.)
