3 This course emphasizes the use of accounting by managers in a business environment. Topics covered include accounting concepts, internal control, current assets, noncurrent assets, liabilities, and equity. The course is specifically designed for non- accounting majors, and emphasis is placed on accounting areas affecting business owners and managers.

4 By the end of this course, you should be able to: Explain the role of accounting systems in business Analyze the impact of accounting transactions on general purpose financial statements Discuss the impact of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act on internal controls Evaluate current and non current components of financial position

9 Discussion Board Requirements: Students must post a minimum of 3 posts per unit. 1 initial response and replies to 2 classmates Posting a minimum of 3 different days, for example: Wednesday, Friday and Monday The first post must be made by Saturday (11:59 pm ET) Initial post must be at least 100 words (not including any direct quotes, references)

10 Specific criteria must be met to earn full credit: - Participation criteria (previous slide) - Quality criteria - Organization criteria - Netiquette criteria Review the discussion board discussion in the Syllabus and under Instructor Information

11 Assignments All assignments are due TUESDAYS at 11:59pm ET at the end of each unit. It is recommended that students complete the homework/ textbook assignments using the TEMPLATES provided under Doc Sharing. You can post and submit some assignments early but the assignments will not be graded early You can post DB responses early; however, you must still participate in the peer to peer discussion during the Unit period to receive full credit

12 A Few Rules of Thumb Review the Electronic Communications Policy in the most recent Kaplan University Catalog Use appropriate language and be considerate. Avoid posting messages in all capital letters -- it comes across to the reader as SHOUTING! Always practice good grammar, punctuation, and composition. Be respectful and treat everyone as you would want to be treated yourself. Use spell check!
