UDL Guidelines: Examples and Resources Table of Content Resource Title, Age, and Content Area How Example Works Key Considerations How Resource Can Be Used Effectively in Future Practice Reference

UDL Guidelines; Examples and Resources Resource Title, Age, and Content Area The principle is Multiple means of engagement. The checkpoint is 7.1: Optimize individual choice and autonomy. The example is Industrial Revolution Tic-Tac-Toe. The age group is High School. The content area is social studies. The cost is free. The technology involved is internet databases, along with the textbook.

UDL Guidelines: Examples and Resources How Example Works The students are shown a grid with a tic-tac-toe diagram with nine different topics to choose from about the Industrial Revolution. The students can choose any of the three topics as long as they are in the same line across, down, or diagonal. The students can choose science, health, and science across to make a poster, CD, public service ad, journal, public service announcement, and public service announcement. The students are given ownership of what they do and how they do it. There is a set of goals for everyday so that the students know what they are required to do and they receive a progress report. They have two weeks to do whatever it is they choose to do. A rubric is used to evaluate what the students have done.

UDL Guidelines and Resources Key Consideration How does this help learners meet the goal? The goal is met because the students get a chance to explore different subjects about one topic. The students share what they have learned about the subject. Ownership of the lessons help the students to feel motivated about the lessons. How does this account for the variability of all learners? The learners have variability because they have choices and can do whatever project they want to do. Are learners given the right amount of choice? Yes, learners are given the right amount of choice because they have nine choices and several different ways of doing it. The choice is sufficient because they only have two weeks to do it in.

UDL Guidelines and Resources How Resource Can Be Used Effectively in Future Practice The resource can be used to help students to gain knowledge about many subject. I can use the tic-tac-toe idea in other subjects to allow the students to find information that will help them in the future. Learning about different subjects will help to improve their view about things that have happened in the past.
