No End in Sight Response By Mike Rings

No Provisional Iraqi Government As of now, there is an Iraqi Provisional Government. It was created on May 20 th, 2006 Jalal Talabani is the current president of Iraq

deBa’athification of the Iraqi Culture, government and economy This was a really stupid mistake because even former Nazis were used to help rebuild Germany after World War 2 deBa’thification eliminated people from power that actually knew what they were doing It also put a lot of people out on the streets

Disbanding the Iraqi Military This was one of the dumbest decisions of the war. An easy way to create an insurgency is to fire a couple hundred thousand trained soldiers. Many of these troops had access to weapons and many have join anti-US groups.

Casualties As of September 2011, 4,481 US troops have been killed in action. 32,195 have been wounded, with nearly 20% of those wounded having serious brain or spinal injuries. The weapon of choice for insurgents is the IED, or improvised explosive device. IEDs can be hidden in anything from piles of trash to dead bodies along the road.

Surprises from No End in Sight I was shocked at the blatant policy mistakes made in Iraq. I was also shocked that there was a plan of important sites to be protected in Baghdad and only one, the oil ministry was protected.

Things that angered me The things that angered me were how such simple mistakes made by people in power could screw things up for years to come. Also, that the government just discarded the hard work of ORHA

Future Interventions With future interventions, we must use common sense when occupying a country It is better to take your time and prepare for war, then to rush into a disaster
