Key Term: Space- an area that an artist provides for a particular purpose. Space includes the background, foreground and middle ground, and refers to the distances or area(s) around, between, and within things.

Artist choose which Elements they want to use in their work. Not every piece of art has all the Elements of Art. Most artists focus on one or two Elements in their works.

Key Term: Movement- to give the feeling of motion and to guide the viewer's eyes throughout the artwork.

Key Term: Rhythm- A visual tempo or beat. A regular repetition of elements of art to produce the look and feel of movement.

Key Term: Contrast- a distinct difference between elements of a form or composition; either visually or in subject matter.

Key Term: Pattern- a repeating unit of shape or form, or the "skeleton" that organizes the parts of a composition.

Key Term: Emphasis- an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes a focal point.

Key Term: Unity- the relationship among the elements of a visual that helps all the elements function together. Unity gives a sense of oneness to a visual image. In other words, the words and the images work together to create meaning.
