BY: EMILY ROBBINS Abstract Art and Math

Background information Students will be advised to create abstract art and also recognize the geometrical shapes that can be formed while doing this. They can complete this on paper or they can complete this on a computer under the program titled “paint”. Before getting started, I will introduce this lesson with some history on abstract art to familiarize students! I will also have an opinionated self assessment students can look over to be sure that they followed directions correctly.

History Abstract art is a painting or sculpture that is not a person, place, or thing in real life. Abstract art comes from the western renaissance. There are three art movements that helped develop abstract art: 1. Romanticism 2. Impressionism 3. Expressionism

Big Idea I can create abstract art using math and following directions.

Objective By using lines and shapes in art can create abstract art.

Studio- Abstract Art Technique: - Create a piece of art using markers, crayons, or colored pencils to create abstract art while integrated geometric shapes. Materials Used: - Markers - Crayons - Colored Pencils - White Paper

Studio Details The studio is carried out by a step by step instruction. Students are informed to listen carefully and follow directions in order to create abstract art. By listening to these directions, students will end up drawing detailed lines, shapes, and colors in specific areas of their paper to complete their drawing of abstract art.

Students will be given the following guidelines: Draw four straight lines from one edge of your paper to the other. Draw two more straight lines from one edge of your paper to the other and make the lines cross over the lines you have already drawn. Draw five circles - any size - anywhere on your paper. Draw two curved lines beginning at the edge of the paper and ending up somewhere in the middle of the paper. Fill in three of the five circles. Fill in six areas of your paper however you would like.

My example for students after doing assignment

Final Assessment Student Name:YesSomewhatNo During the review, was the student able to identify and define what abstract art was? Was the student able to see how geometric shapes are in abstract art and are used in abstract art? Was the student able to define the specific terms that were included in the lesson? Was the student able to relay what they had learned from the lesson?
