Activity 95: Selective Transmission Warm up: if purple/violet light has a wavelength of 380-450 nanometers, what would you expect the wavelength of red light to be?
2
End of Quarter Dates! Tuesday, March 8 th is our next quiz. Activities 92-96 Unit F Test: Wednesday, March 16 th ! Study guide in OneNote All missing work must be in my March 18 th !

Activity 94 Analysis Questions
4
Activity 94 In Case You Missed It… The visible light spectrum is a part of the larger electromagnetic spectrum It is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to the human eye. There are different wavelengths in the visible light spectrum and they produce different colors.
5
Activity 94 In Case You Missed It… Refraction: light comes in contact with multiple media and “bends” the light. Diffraction: light is spread out into the different wavelengths.
6
Activity 94: In Case You Missed It… Red light: longer wavelength lower frequency lower energy Violet light: shorter wavelength higher frequency higher energy
7
Activity 95: Selective Transmission Please open your books to page F34.
8
Activity 95: Selective Transmission When light hits an object, it is either transmitted, reflected, or absorbed. Transmitted: when light energy quickly enters a material and is reemitted on the other side.
9
Activity 95: Selective Transmission Reflected: when light waves bounce off the object, either in one direction or scattered in many directions.
10
Activity 95: Selective Transmission Absorbed: light waves enter an object and it does not come out of the object again as light.
11
Activity 95: Selective Transmission Thinking back to Act. 94, what happens to the colors of light that do not pass through the colored films? Focus: what part of sunlight is transmitted through selected films?
12
Activity 95: Selective Transmission Each group should have one person per role: Materials manager Make sure all of the materials make it outside and back inside. Keep the group organized and on-track Recorder In charge of recording data accurately; must hold on to paper! Precision person Make sure the box is not shaded and as it should be according to the procedure Construction manager Construct and deconstruct boxes as needed per procedure
13
Activity 95: Selective Transmission Part A: Comparing Temperatures Chart in Content Library Step #9: be sure to rank the films. Part B: Comparing Ultraviolet Be really careful when removing thermometers and adding UV cards.
14
Activity 95: Selective Transmission Sample data for Part A
15
Activity 95: Selective Transmission Sample Data for Part B
