7 Last week we talked about writing equations that compare numbers using multiplication. Like, 3 times as many as 4 is 12. This week we are going to solve word problems that compare. Take a look!

8 Hannah scored 3 goals last season. She scored 4 times as many goals this season. How many goals did Hannah score this season? Last SeasonThis Season How many goals did Hannah score last season? How could you skip count to find the number she scored this season? Besides addition, what operation can you use to solve this problem? What is 4 times as many as 3? Modeling

14 CFU: Whiteboards A student grew two plants for the science fair. The first plant was 4 centimeters tall. The second plant was three times as tall. How tall was the second plant? Draw a model to represent the problem. Write and solve an multiplication equation to represent the height of the second plant.

15 Write about it!  Samuel joined the cross country team this school year. He can now run 5 times the amount of miles he could run during the summer. Samuel can now run 10 miles. Write and solve an equation to represent the number of miles Samuel could run at the start of the school year.  Explain in words, equations, and or models how the number 10 in this problem can be both a product and a dividend?  Swap with your face partner to check and critique.
