1 Welcome to your first day!! While you wait for the bell to ring, get started on the following: Pick up a small schedule from the table under the bulletin board and tape it into your agenda. Write you name and bus slot/bus driver’s name in your agenda on the FIRST page. Pick up a piece of construction paper from the table under the bulletin board and make a name-plate tent and decorate it with things that describe you (Example located on my desk!)

2 6 th Grade Language Arts Ms. Merritt

3 Find your seat! A list of names and numbers are located by my desk on the white board Find you name and corresponding desk number – hint: it’s organized alphabetically by LAST name Numbers are located in the top left-hand corner of your desks! Help your friends find their desks!

4 Acrostic Poem Write your first name vertically down the left side of the page Using the corresponding letter of your name, begin a word or statement that UNIQUELY describes you Decorate with symbols, pictures and colors that you relate with

5 Group Share Within your groups, share what school you come from, what you are most excited/nervous about in 6 th grade and your acrostic poem. Choose a buddy to introduce to the rest of the class.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why? 9. What is your greatest strength? 10. If you could have any pet in the world, what would it be? 11. What is one thing you want to accomplish by the end of 6 th grade? 12. If you could have one super power, what would it be?

12 After the Pretest Pick up my “Letter of Introduction” to you and read it. When you have finished, write your own letter using pen/pencil and paper to me. You can decorate it as you like. If you finish your letter of introduction, turn it into your class’s inbox and begin organizing your binder with the following sections: To Keep DGP Vocabulary Graded Work Paper

13 Homework Complete your letter of introduction, due Wednesday, August 3. Bring class materials tomorrow!
