2 CHLAMYDIA cont’d Symptoms for women: Yellow discharge pain during urination lower abdominal pain pain during intercourse spotting between periods nausea and fever Treatment:Curable, antibiotics

3 HEPATITIS B A virus that causes liver damage Transmission:unprotected sex sharing needles Symptoms:fever, achy muscles vomiting, etc. Treatment:complicated series of drugs

4 HERPES A Virus characterized by blisters and sores. Transmission:Oral, vaginal, or anal sex. Can be spread whether sores are present or not. Symptoms: Painful, fluid-filled sores Genital discharge Cold sores on mouth Fever, body aching Treatment:NOT curable, medication can treat symptoms.

5 SYPHILIS STI caused by an organism Transmission:Oral, vaginal, anal sex Kissing Touching infected sores sharing needles. Symptoms:rashes/sores on hands, feet, inside the mouth

6 GONORRHEA (also called “the clap”) STI caused by a bacterium (very infectious). Transmission:Oral, vaginal, or anal sex. Deep kissing Symptoms:Constipation, rectal bleeding. Men: painful urination. Women: vaginal discharge unusual bleeding Treatment:Curable, antibiotic.

7 GENITAL WARTS (HPV) (Human Papilloma Virus) Transmission:Oral, vaginal, or anal sex. Symptoms:Warts in the genital/anus areas. Men (urethra) Women (vaginal wall, cervix) Mouth, lips, eyelids, nipples Treatment:NOT Curable (virus remains) Warts can be removed

8 HIV/AIDS (Human Immunodeficiency Virus may develop into the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) Transmission:Oral vaginal, anal, sex. Passed by: blood, semen, vaginal fluids, breast milk. General Symptoms:Diarrhea, weight loss, fever, and fatigue. Treatment: NOT Curable Medication to control symptoms.

9 PUBIC LICE (Living organisms, “crabs”) Transmission:sexual/non-sexual contact. Symptoms:redness/itching Treatment:Curable, insecticide lotion

10 COMMON SIGNS OF AN STI Sores, bumps, or blisters near the mouth or genitals. Burning/pain during urination or bowel movement. Flu-like symptoms (fever, chills) Swelling in the groin area.

11 FEMALES Unusual vaginal discharge Pelvic pain Burning/itching around the vagina Unusual bleeding Pain during intercourse Increased menstrual cramps

12 MALES Discharge from the penis Pain in the testicles Inflammation or pain from the head of the penis
