C ALCULATION OF GRADES Report cards will be sent home at the end of each nine weeks. Interim progress reports will be sent home each nine weeks. Aims-Web is given in the fall and winter. Reading Benchmarking is done in the fall, winter and spring. Science and Social Studies are assessed through teacher observation, hands-on activities, projects, kit assessments, and unit tests Weekly spelling tests are given each week with 10 words and dictation sentences made from the word wall. Writing journals and rubrics and teacher conferences are used to assess writing. Daily class work is collected and checked for mastery. A portfolio is kept on each student. The portfolio may include student work samples, anecdotal notes, checklists, district benchmarks and pictures.

H OMEWORK POLICY Homework packets are sent home each Monday and are due on Friday of that week. Students are also required to read 15 minutes each night and parents are to record the title of the book the child reads on the weekly newsletter. Math worksheet 3 Spelling activities Brain Booster worksheet Students are given a day of grace if homework is not completed and a valid excuse is given. Incomplete homework will be finished during morning work.

C LASSROOM MANAGEMENT PLAN The classroom rules are posted at the beginning of the year, signed by the students and are reviewed throughout the year. Behavior Calendars go home daily in the homework folder. Continued behavior problems will be addressed with a telephone call or personal conference with the parent/s. Continued problems require a group conference with an administrator. Positive Strategies are used to reinforce desired classroom behavior. Class compliments are added each time a compliment is received from other teachers or adults. When class goal is reached, students help choose reward. Stickers and prizes are given for individual accomplishments, work and/or behavior. Students are praised when following directions, listening attentively, or when doing their best. A copy of the Classroom Management Plan will be sent home and signed by the parents. Additional copies are available upon request.

P ROCEDURES FOR N ON - INSTRUCTIONAL R OUTINES Morning Routine Upon arrival, students are responsible for the following: Unpack your book bag. Turn in your blue folder. Use the bathroom. Begin morning work. Bathroom - Students are free to use the classroom bathroom as necessary, except while the teacher is giving instructional information. Emergencies are exempt from this rule. Lunch Choice- Students make lunch choices each morning.

C OMMUNICATION Communication with parents is through a variety of ways: A homework folder, which includes weekly newsletter, a monthly behavior calendar and any notes to and from parents go home daily. The weekly newsletter includes school and classroom information, events and important dates, spelling words, assignments, and areas of study. Classroom and school rules, procedures, and contact information are presented and discussed at the beginning of the year Open House and sent home with parents cannot attend. Conferences are held at the end of the first nine weeks and when deemed necessary by the parents or teacher. All parents are required to attend at least one conference with the classroom teacher.
