1 Helping people to build-up PLCs extranet network for SCADA systems eWON Remote Data Online
2
2 Who is eWON ? Part of ACTL group, 65 employees, 11.5 M€. Manufacturer of Industrial Internet routers HQ in Belgium, Sub. in US Product line started in 2001 ISO9000/9001 quality plan like including full product traceability CE/UL labeled products 92% export, more than 45 dist. > 65.000 shipped end of 2011

5 Business Case: Thames Water Improvement of the water and sewage networks around London area, serving 14 M. people Part of £4.9bn investment program, between 2010 and 2015 Purpose : o To move to Proactive Asset Management o To avoid sending on-site engineers without knowing the problem o To gather data, modify process parameters, backup site devices and also perform device maintenance.

6 Thames Architecture Business Case: Thames Water 8300 RTU’s involved eWON feeds central site with real time data Fail-over in GPRS if ADSL breaks down PLCs controls the communication thanks to eWON tags

7 Remote Data Online : For whom? Who would be interested ? For System Integrators: o Active in remote control projects o With SCADA used in Remote control apps. (not factory floor) o Having the need of permanent connections o Wanting to use PLC instead of RTU o Looking for a transparent and open system o Looking for a universal way of polling remote devices in Ethernet (Modbus TCP) o ….
8
8 Some typical customers needs To be completely transparent for SCADA or remote controls systems To provide data recovery features when communication drops To be easy to deploy (wizard) To be open to use PLCs To be secure: VPN based extranet To provide one interface whatever the PLCs To replace phone lines with DSL or cellular technologies To use Internet for faster communication channels ….
9
9 Typical Architecture Star network made of permanent links through the Internet Every branch = VPN tunnel Central site= eFive VPN appliance Local site = eWON Industrial Router Traffic is bridged from eFive to each mode Coherent IP addresses map (not suitable for Remote access) Four topologies advised
10
10 1. eFive Dedicated Network eFive = Firewall + VPN server Requirements: Internet access with fixed IP or Dyn DNS
11
11 2. eFive in DMZ eFive= VPN server only Requirements: reserved IP address in DMZ (as many as #eWONs) + forward UDP1194 to the VPN server
12
12 3. eFive Isolated network in DMZ eFive = VPN server + Firewall (security of the SCADA LAN) Requirements: forward UDP1194 to eFive
13
13 4. eFive In Corporate Network (NOT RECOMMENDED) eFive = VPN server (security of the SCADA LAN) Requirements: forward UDP1194 to eFive
14
14 eFive appliances product proposal eFive 25 (E510101) Up to 25 eWONs eFive 100 (E520201) Up to 100 eWONs

16 eFive Firmware Main Features DHCP Server Firewall with GREEN/RED/ORANGE/BLUE interfaces (4x) OpenVPN Server o VPN bridged Interface (TAP) o Only for eWON Remote access for eWON support department
17
17 eFive Support program ProgramDescription Normal (standard/free) Same support as for any eWON product Gold (optional/paying) eWON technical 2° lvl support prior access Next Business day replacement product Warranty extension to 3 years max. eFive 25eFive 100 1 year : E5911011 year : E591201 3 years: E5931013 years: E593201
18
18 eFive Gold Support Program In case of hardware problem o RMA process has to be done by the customer o If it’s performed before 12:00 AM, a replacement unit will be shipped out of eWON SA or eWON Inc factory the day after o The replacement unit will be a new eFive or a refactorized eFIVE o The shipping costs will be covered by eWON o The customer has to send back its defect eFIVE to eWON SA (Belgium) or eWON (Inc) at their own cost o The repair cost will be invoiced to the customer if the cause is not covered by warranty

25 RDO: Which Modem Type ? ChoiceConnection TypeAdvantagesDrawbacks 1 st CellularWorldwide availability High speed is not available everywhere. Technology may vary around the world requiring specific device. Cost is not free Cost is data dependent 2 nd ADSL High speed Flat fee Difficult to draw a phone line 3 rd LAN Cost of usage is free High Bandwitdh Satellite communication Very rare on remote site

27 Competition and Alternative Solution Tips and tricks TypeDrawbacks Specialized ScadaClosed, expensive Private GSM APN network- Expensive - Mixing APN with other media (ex. ADSL) difficult - No SLA/no data recovery IT industrial routers/extranet- No plug & play, difficult to deploy - No data recovery RTUs system-Closed & expensive system -Not PLCs like

28 eFive vs Endian Tips and tricks eFive 25 & 100Endian Mini & Mercury SupportFree of charge Payable & mandatory for SAV, FW. upgrade Price Less expensive after two years Less expensive at purchase FWUnder user control Under Endian Network control HDSSDSD card/mechanical Warranty18 months12 months
29
29 eFive Solution: Key Selling Points Tips and tricks Simple and plug & play solution −config. through wizards −take advantage of eWON experience in deploying industrial remote IT If no communication, data can be buffered temporarily −…data stored in files & can be retrieved later eWON is also a ModBus TCP server −..so eWON can interface any industrial device with any protocol easily eFive reachable also through Internet −for Gold support customer, eWON can have access

30 Qualify the Opportunity Tips and tricks Do you need permanent connections? Will this be for a remote control application ? Do you need to replace an existing PTSN based polling system? Do you need to replace RTUs with PLCs? Do you need an open, transparent and secure network system? Do you need to deal with the polling of heterogeneous PLCs devices, with many different protocols ? ….
31
31 Get Background Information Tips and tricks What experience does the customer have with Remote Data Online? o Experience with SCADA in remote control application? o Experience with remote polling system? o Experience with Routers, Firewall? o Experience with cellular/ADSL communication? o Experience with PLCs Get them talking ! Key words – How is it with: o Integrating the project into existing networks or dedicated network o Involving IT people o Communication costs o Openness
32
32 eFive is not a Talk2M-in-a-Box solution a data collection application a remote access solution Designed for OEM Designed for End-user eFive is for System Integrator
