Whiskey Rebellion 1794 (western Pennsylvania) - grain distilled into whiskey - easier to transport to eastern markets - farmers resisted the excise tax by intimidating and attacking tax collectors *Hamilton commanded 12,000 militiamen to march west into region. - rebellion dissolved

Political Parties Compete for Power - political parties- groups of people who seek to win elections and hold public office in order to shape government policy. 1. Federalists - led by Hamilton and John Adams 2. Democratic Republicans - led by Jefferson and Madison * Why would people support Federalists/Democratic Republican?
