USDA's Office of Inspector General: “the most prevalent area of non- compliance found in (Food Service Management Company) cost-reimbursable contracts is the failure to return the value of discounts, rebates, and credits to the nonprofit food service account. Proposed Release Date: August 31, 2016 Applications Due: September 29, 2016 Awarding: 25 grants (applications must be submitted by the school district on behalf of each school site applying for the grant award. No more than two (2) schools within a school district may apply). 2016 USDA Foodservice Equipment Assistance Grant ©MDE – Office of Child Nutrition 28 Grant Purpose: Purchase equipment that improves the safety and quality of food served in the school meals programs (e.g. hot/cold holding equipment, refrigeration, milk coolers, freezers, blast chillers, et.). STANDALONE EQUIPMENT ONLY; NO counter top! Purchase equipment that improves the overall energy efficiency of the school nutrition operations (e.g. purchase of an energy-efficient walk-in freezer or cooler replacing an outdated, energy-demanding freezer or cooler). Purchase equipment that allows School Food Authorities to support expanded participation in a school meal program (e.g. equipment for serving meals in a non-traditional setting or to better utilize cafeteria space).

Proposed Release Date: September 1, 2016 Applications Due: October 12, 2016 Awarding: 20 grants to those who did NOT receive funding from 2012-2016 grant. (Applications must be submitted by the school district on behalf of each school site applying for the grant award. No more than two (2) schools within a school district may apply. Schools with larger enrollment will receive more points). Grant Purpose: To remove fryers and replace with Combination Oven Steamers to prepare similar foods without deep fat fryers. To promote and share information on the feasibility and cost of removing fryers and installing Combination Oven Steamers with other food service personnel in Mississippi schools. To eliminate fried foods for a period of five years. To provide healthier school meals by reducing the amount of calories, fat, saturated fat and trans-fat served, to help students to become healthy, fit, and ready to learn. 2017 Nutrition Integrity Grant ©MDE – Office of Child Nutrition 30
