2 Nutrition Reference Center™ is a premier evidence-based point-of-care tool that provides nutritionists and dietitians with access to the most current evidence-based information on nutrition best practices. In this tutorial we look at how to search Nutrition Reference Center, as well as how to set up topic alerts, browse content by category, and customize patient handouts.

3 To search Nutrition Reference Center, enter your search terms in the Search Box and click Search.

4 On the Result List, you can limit your results to specific Material Types, such as Quick Lessons, Evidence- Based Care Sheets, and Patient Handouts. Click a Full Text link to read a Nutrition Reference Center topic.

5 From the Detailed Record or HTML Full Text of a topic, you can have Nutrition Reference Center alert you via e-mail when the topic is updated. Simply click the E-mail Alert button and enter your e-mail address. Select how often you would like to be alerted and click Create Alert. No personal account is necessary to create topic alerts.

6 Nutrition Reference Center features landing pages that allow you to search for content related to Diseases, Skills, Food, Guidelines, Continuing Education, Patient Education, and Reference Books, using the tabs above the Search Box.

7 From any of these pages, enter your terms in the Search Box and click Search. Or select from one of the options displayed on the page. In this example, we’ll search the Patient Ed page for evidence-based information handouts related to heart disease.

8 On the result list, click a Full Text link to view and print a Patient Education handout customized with your patient’s information.

9 Select the Print option to add patient-specific information to the document. This features helps provide consistent communication between healthcare providers and patients and enhances the practitioner-patient relationship.

10 The custom information you provide appears near the top of the first page of the printed document.

11 Click the Help link at the top right of the Nutrition Reference Center screen to view the complete online Help system.
