A Strong Economy You are on top of the Hollywood Mountains but you don’t know it. You look down and see all the businesses filled with thousands and thousands of educated workers such as doctors, engineers, and actors. You can’t remember the name of the economy all though movie making rings a bell. Then you remember an economy that has millions of hard workers- California’s Economy. California has a extremely strong economy. They lead all states in manufacturing. Its location allows it to be involved with international trade. Also California has a good history involving a gold rush, 2 victorious world wars, and the building of the railroad.

Technology and Trade You are at the Pacific Basin but you don’t know it. You see large ships carrying crates full of high tech computers. The state you are in is California. High technology is getting exported and imported all most every single day. This helps create interdependence between Californians and other countries. Interdependence is relying on other economies to import and export a fair amount of goods while you do the same for them. California’s Economy stays strong with the help importing from other countries.

An Agricultural Giant You are in a marketing factory. You watch workers process fruits and vegetables by cooking, canning, drying, freezing, and preparing them. This is how California’s Economy prepares fruits and vegetables. We call this process food processing. California’s agriculture has provided more crops than any other state. Its location provides rich soil and its wonderful climate provides great weather for agriculture.

The Service Industry You are in a restaurant and the waiter is taking your order. You wonder wait industry he belongs to. But since he is giving a service to you instead of doing things for the government, he belongs to a service industry. The service industry provides a lot for tourists. This is called tourism. Millions of tourists come each and help the service industry by paying for their service.

The Silicon Valley The Silicon Valley is a valley that has so many high tech computer companies. It is a key part for California’s Economy because they are used in exporting and international trade. They also make computer chips for computers. In 1951 it started in Palo Alto. Since the place had so many computer companies, the valley in Palo Alto is now known as the Silicon Valley. In the next slide, you will see a video clip about the Silicon Valley
