Hello! Introduction: –Sara Cornwall, Education Officer, Faculty of Radiation Oncology –I am the first point of Contact for DoTs and Trainees who need assistance or clarification regarding training requirements, examinations and assessments. 2

New Trainees – Applications to RANZCR 3 New trainees must submit their RANZCR Applications within 2 weeks of their start date. If I receive an application late, the trainees’ official accredited training start date is set at the date of receipt of the application. The application can be found on the College website. New Trainees should be advised of this application as soon as possible so they are able to organise the required attachments in time. Start dates are only back-dated under exceptional circumstances.

Part-Time Training Progression The most up-to-date Rules of Progression and Progression Summaries are available on the website. Part-Time trainees are expected to submit the following assessments at the same rate as full-time trainees: –DoT Assessments (1 every 6 months) –CSAs (submitted for each term, minimum 1 per 6 months) –TATTs (submitted for each term, minimum 1 per 6 months) –MSFs (1 per year). 4

Phase 1 Examination Eligibility A trainee may apply to sit the phase 1 examination if he or she has completed: (i)5 Clinical Assignments (ii)3 practical experiences in treatment machines, radiation treatment planning and oncology imaging; and (iii)All other “non-medical expert” in training assessments (e.g. Mini-CEX, MSF, TATTs) at the required rate, calculated pro-rata according to training time. The full policy is available on the College website. All applicants’ training progression will be checked to ensure that the above criteria have been met! 5

A trainee may apply to sit the phase 2 examination if he or she has: (i)Completed the Research Assignment (old or SMART) (ii)Completed the Statistics Assignment (old or SMART) (iii)Completed the Phase 2 Learning Portfolio assessment which has been verified by the DoT. (iv)All other “non-medical expert” in training assessments (e.g. Mini-CEX, MSF, TATTs) at the required rate, calculated pro-rata according to training time. The full policy is available on the College website. It will be updated in July 2013.
