2 Definition ● Repeated usage of a word/ending/words at the end of clauses, sentences or fragments in order. Sometimes Epistrophe is referred to as Epiphora. ● Ex 1: “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child.” — The Apostle Paul, in the Bible, 1 Cor 13:11 ● Ex 2: " These sitters had been tongueless, earless, eyeless convenciences all day long." -Their Eyes Were Watching God ( Zora Neale Hurston)

3 Effects of an Epistrophe ● Epistrophes are a very good way of using repetition to point out something to the reader as the repeating word will stand out from the others. ● They are also very common when describing something or someone. i.e. He's cunning, deceiving, and running.
