PROVERBS 22

PROVERBS 22:17-21 COMMANDS & REASONS Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge, for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips. That your trust may be in the LORD, I have made them known to you today, even to you. Have I not written for you thirty sayings of counsel and knowledge, to make you know what is right and true, that you may give a true answer to those who sent you? The bible is a gift from God for your blessing. What are you doing with the bible?

PROVERBS 22:1 YOUR REPUTATION A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold. What are you known for on earth? What are you know for in heaven? Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:20

PROVERBS 22:2 ONE RACE; TWO FATHERS The rich and the poor meet together; the LORD is the maker of them all. Prejudice is blaspheming God! And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth…Acts 17:26 Only by God’s grace through faith in Jesus are you adopted! You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires…John 8:44 He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:11-13

PROVERBS 22:3, 5 PROTECT YOURSELF! The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it. Thorns and snares are in the way of the crooked; whoever guards his soul will keep far from them. Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. Ephesians 6:10-11

PROVERBS 22:4, 11 REGENERATION & REWARD The reward for humility and fear of the LORD is riches and honor and life. He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend. Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Matthew 5:8 Justification is an event for every believer. Sanctification is a process for every believer. Are you changing?

PROVERBS 22:6 BIBLICAL PARENTING Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders... And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the LORD… And they abandoned the LORD, the God of their fathers, …They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the LORD to anger. JUDGES 2:7,10,12

PROVERBS 22:6 BIBLICAL PARENTING Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Who has God assigned authority & responsibility? –Are you active or passive? What is the goal of training your children? –Earthly success? or Eternal life? What are you teaching your children? –Foolishness? or Absolute Truth? How are you training them? What will your children say about their childhood?

PROVERBS 22:15 BIBLICAL PARENTING Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him. Do not discipline for being a child Do discipline for being a wicked child Do not discipline in anger Do discipline in love Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

PROVERBS 22:7, 13, 26, 27 DEBT, SLOTH, RASH VOWS The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender. The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I shall be killed in the streets!” Be not one of those who give pledges, who put up security for debts. If you have nothing with which to pay, why should your bed be taken from under you? Stupidity vs. Sin The wise avoid both!

PROVERBS 22:16, 22, 23 MAKING GOD YOUR ENEMY Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty. Do not rob the poor, because he is poor, or crush the afflicted at the gate, for the LORD will plead their cause and rob of life those who rob them. But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6

PROVERBS 22:9 GOD’S BLESSINGS Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor. In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” Acts 20:35 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 2 Corinthians 9:7 Generous or Selfish?

PROVERBS 22:14 A DEEP PIT The mouth of forbidden women is a deep pit; he with whom the LORD is angry will fall into it. Adultery is a sin and a punishment! Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

PROVERBS 22:10, 24, 25 SIN IS CONTAGIOUS! Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out, and quarreling and abuse will cease. Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare. Evil ways are more easily learned than righteous ways. Friendship blinds us. Are you given to anger?

PROVERBS 22:12 GOD GUARDS HIS TRUTH The eyes of the LORD keep watch over knowledge, but he overthrows the words of the traitor. All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Who do you believe?

PROVERBS 22:29 YOUR WORK; YOUR REWARD Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:23-24 His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:21

PROVERBS 22:17-21 COMMANDS & REASONS Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge, for it will be pleasant if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
