7 7 Childcare: Giving children a good start in the crucial early years, supporting working parents to the benefit of the whole family “Primary schools provide access to high-quality childcare, 8am–6pm, five days a week, 48 weeks a year, in accordance with their communities’ needs.”

8 8 Varied menu of activities: Giving children a choice of opportunities to enjoy and excel outside of the classroom “Schools provide access to a varied menu of study support and enrichment activities which provide fun and stimulating activities for young people.”

9 9 Swift and easy access: Working in partnership to ensure the well-being of all children. “Schools work closely with statutory services and the voluntary and community sector to ensure that children with additional needs are identified and supported as early as possible.”

10 10 Parenting support: Helping parents engage with their children’s learning by offering support where needed. “Schools provide access to parenting support, including information sessions around transition, signposting to services, parenting groups and family learning sessions.”

11 11 Community access: Opening the doors to the community “Schools ensure they provide community access to appropriate facilities, such as ICT suites, sports and arts facilities, and also provide access to adult learning.”

13 Working with Extended Services staff Extended Schools or Extended Services? Who? –ESRAs –ESCOs –Cluster Managers –Cluster Coordinators –Development Workers Staff come from many different backgrounds and have a wide variety of experience

14 What do Extended Services Workers do? Work with groups of schools to ensure that they are meeting the ES agenda Forge partnerships and encourage multi- agency working Develop innovative ways of delivering the core ES offer Role involves a mixture of strategy and implementation

15 Extended Services and Museums (1) Cluster working supports easy access to pupils and their families, particularly the hard to reach. ES offers access to new funding sources. Schools and pupils can experience museums in a new way. Can help Museums to strengthen partnerships with local communities.

16 Extended Services and Museums (2) Museums are in a strong position to contribute to the ES agenda. –Experience of collaborative working –Experience of delivering innovative packages –Cultural activities are currently under- represented in the Varied Menu

17 Conclusion Closer working between Museums and Extended Services could be mutually beneficial. Extended Services offers Museums the opportunity to re-brand activities and engage with new audiences. Extended Services workers can offer Museums a single point of contact to clusters of schools. Museums have a lot to offer to the ES agenda.
