Background Annually collect survey data from >15,000 post-secondary institutions, schools and day cares in accordance with Public Health Law. Assess vaccination coverage and monitor compliance with immunization requirements. 2

Methods Used existing Health Commerce System (HCS) to house school survey application. Worked with existing software framework to create OSAS. 8

Methods Expanded the Communications Directory to include schools. Recruited schools for HCS accounts. HCS accounts needed to access the HCS. HCS accounts needed to access the HCS. 9

HCS Secure system accessible via the Internet -- anytime, anywhere. Up-to-date information on important and timely public health issues is available on the HCS. 10

HCS Provides access to the latest NYS health alerts. Free for schools. HCS accounts are password protected. 11

Benefits of OSAS Eliminates most frequent completion errors. Instant confirmation that the immunization survey data has been received. Help buttons next to each data entry field box display instructions for completing that field box. 12

Additional Benefits More quickly and effectively communicate with schools. Increased interaction with schools. School Surveillance application has become a one stop shop for schools. NYSIIS also located on the HCS. 14

Results Efficient data collection system. Requires minimal training to use. Cost savings of over $21,000. Valuable tool for other agencies needing to contact schools and collect data. 16

Future Anticipate over 9,000 schools will report via OSAS in the next few years. More NYS agencies will utilize the school survey system. 17
