6 Summary Care Record The Summary Care Record is one element of the NHS Care Records Service (the other element being the Detailed Care Record). It contains key health information; details of allergies, current prescriptions and bad reactions to medicines. Details of any current health problems may be added; summaries of their care and the healthcare staff treating them. 6

10 10 Patients can ask for sensitive information to be made inaccessible (other than to healthcare professionals they may choose). Sensitive information Healthcare professionals will be aware when a record contains information they cannot see. A healthcare professional can ask a patients’ permission to view information that is hidden. A patients’ wishes can be overridden in certain circumstances (public interest, court order or access by statute)
