What is IAMSLIC? International organization of individuals and institutions with over 300 members from more than 70 countries. Began in 1975 in Woods Hole, MA Purpose is to promote cooperation and sharing of resources among libraries and information centers which specialize in any aspect of aquatic science – freshwater, brackish and marine. Annual conference, continuing education workshops, membership directory, listserv, digital repository, resource sharing, regional groups/meetings and special projects. All types and sizes of libraries and information centers participate, including marine and freshwater research and policy institutions, government agencies, colleges, universities, non-profit and for-profit organizations.

Resource Sharing/ILL The Z Catalog Z39.50 protocol Simultaneously searches the online catalogs of a number of member libraries It also retrieves serials holdings from the Union List of Marine & Aquatic Serials. The Union List of Marine & Aquatic Serials The Union List contains selected serials holding information, largely from libraries that do not have online catalogs that can be searched via Z39.50.

Other Benefits Small group, easy to get involved Have peer-reviewed conference papers and posters along with a published conference proceedings Annual conferences are held internationally Regional groups are great for networking Travel grants are available via regional groups and Guin fund Membership is $65/year for US librarians Partnerships with Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC), Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (FAO), and North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES)
